On regular tables with aligned columns it works well. On tables with merged cells, multi-level rows or columns separated only by spaces, the result needs checking: a PDF does not say where a cell ends, the structure is inferred. It is always worth verifying the totals.
OCR is needed first: on an image there is no text to arrange into columns. After OCR detection becomes possible, with the same caveat about checking.
